Don't forget to stop by the Downtown branch of Landmark National Bank today and tomorrow from 9am-4pm! I had a chance to meet Jamie Lavin and he is an amazing artist and a super nice guy! Check out his bio:
“I am primarily a self-taught artist. I live near Kansas City, in Gardner, Kansas, with my wife and two daughters. My mission as an artist began as soon as I could hold a pencil. My parents owned an art gallery when I was growing up. My grandfather was also an illustrator and sign painter, and my father passed his skills on to me. I decided to enter the family business as a fine artist after my first child was born. It has become a limitless highway for me to explore, to carry out my work and make a living, and to be the parent I have always hoped to be.” Jamie was born in 1958 in Overland Park, Kansas. His father and his aunt schooled him in painting and drawing. He attended Rockhurst High School, where he gained experience throwing clay under Father Jim White and a summer scholarship under Ken Ferguson at the Kansas City Art Institute. He spent 20 years as a picture framer doing specialty works. Central Park Gallery former owners Jim & Brenda Miles gave Jamie his start, selling his first piece in September of 1993. After selling many paintings through their gallery, Jamie spread out regionally, his work handled in four other galleries and doing the Midwest art show circuit, winning four major awards. He is a grandfathered artist in the Symphony in the Flint Hills art show, winning best in show in 2008. Commissions are a large part of Jamie’s business, working in both abstract and representational subjects. Many of his pieces are on his signature “tiles,” which are actually made of 8-ply cotton rag board, and supported by foam spacers to create a 3D effect. He works in both oil and acrylic, and often utilizes gold and silver leaf in his abstract work. Contact: jamielavincontemporaryart@gmail.com
