Saloons were a fixture of any cattle town, and Dodge City had many. From 1872–1886, “the Beautiful, Bibulous Babylon of the Frontier” had as many as 16 saloons for a town of only 800–1,000 people. Keith Wondra, Boot Hill Museum curator and Western Cattle Trail Association Dodge City Chapter president, will share the events that led to the founding of Dodge City and the beginning of its saloons. The presentation will feature famous saloons such as the Long Branch and the Saratoga, along with lesser-known establishments like the Lady Gay and the St. James.
